Effective 1 July 2022, there will be changes to the:
- National minimum wage
- Modern award and
- Super rates
National Minimum Wage
FWC has handed down a 5.2% increase to the national minimum wage ($40 per week).
The national minimum wage will be $812.60 per week or $21.38 per hour. This increase will protect the real value of the wages of the lowest-paid workers.
The decision was made keeping the Australian economy in mind, in particular the rise in inflation and cost of living resulting in real wage reductions for award-reliant workers.
Modern Awards
FWC has also announced a 4.6% increase in the modern award minimum wages (minimum increase of $40 per week).
When do the changes come into effect?
The above-mentioned changes are to applied from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2022.
Delayed Modern Awards
The increase in modern award will be delayed in the following sectors:
- Tourism
- Aviation and
- Hospitality
Changes will apply to the following awards from the first pay period on or after 1 October 2022:
- Aircraft Cabin Crew Award 2020
- Airline Operations – Ground Staff Award 2020
- Air Pilots Award 2020

Super Changes
From 1 July 2022:
- The super guarantee will increase from 10% to 10.5%.
- All employees will be eligible for super guarantee, regardless of how much they earn. This is due to the $450 per month eligibility threshold being removed.
All employers need to ensure their payroll systems reflects this change.
